Intermediate –Make Your Own Clothes! Introduction to Dressmaking

This course will enable you to build upon basic sewing and dressmaking skills and take your designs further! Looking at different shapes and design features, you will learn how to draft a basic pattern block and adapt it to your own design.

This course will look at the design features of clothing to enable you to turn basic garments into special pieces and adapt patterns to incorporate the features that you want.

This includes different types of collars and cuffs, different sleeve shapes (such as puff, peasant, bell and bishop), skirt shapes (including godets, frills, A-Line, pencil and pleats), different types of darts in tops and widening/tapering trousers.

You will also have the opportunity to draft a pattern block of either a blouse, skirt or trousers from your own measurements.
